Women in Mining Nigeria in collaboration with the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) will today 20th April 2022 commence a 3-day capacity building training for ASM in Plateau State. This training is part of activities in the project of mainstreaming gender to achieve gender justice in the solid mineral sector in Nigeria that is being implemented in Taraba, Osun and Plateau States.
The training which will comprise of women miners from across different mining locations in the state shall be facilitated by Ministry of Mines and Steel Development, Mining Cadaster Office, State Ministry of Environment, State Ministry of Mines, the Academia and CSOs. The modules for this training will include: Introduction to Mining, Social Issues in Mining, Geology and Exploration, Mining techniques and Maintenance, Mining Laws and Regulations, Environmental Management in mining, Health and Safety in ASM and Mineral Processing and Beneficiation.
A release by the President of WiMiN, Hon. Engr Janet Adeyemi said the objective of this activity is to capacitate women miners to be able to work effectively and efficiently in all the value chains in the mining sector. She is optimistic that the mainstreaming of women along all value chain of the solid mineral sector will yield more economic benefits to the country and shall improve the socio-economic well-being of all women in mining.
Engr. Janet admonish all relevant stakeholder to join hands with Women in Mining Nigeria to ensure that the objectives of this intervention are met.
